SUMMARY:Unveiling of a Permanent Indigenous Veterans' Monument
DESCRIPTION:Members of the public are invited to join the Indigenous Veterans Monument Committee next Saturday\, May 3 in Victoria Park for the unveiling of a permanent monument that honours Indigenous Veterans. The unveiling coincides with the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.\n\n\n\nFrom the Royal Regina Trust: “This monument stands as a reminder of their courage and sacrifice—and the injustices many faced upon returning home. It calls for remembrance\, education\, and the reparations still owed. We know that at least 20% of the Regina Rifles Regiment identified as Indigenous during the Second World War.”

DESCRIPTION:From our friends at Government House: \nWe are thrilled to announce that the unveiling of We Are Immigrants\, our 2025 Feature Exhibit is taking place Saturday\, May 24\, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Government House. \nWe Are Immigrants is a travelling exhibit featuring the moving and thought-provoking work of artist Raeann Kit-Yee Cheung. Through powerful imagery\, this exhibit reveals the often-hidden hardships and lasting legacy of early Chinese Canadian immigrants – and celebrates their vital contributions to the building of our nation. \nThe exhibit launch event will feature an exciting cultural showcase\, featuring a Lion Dance by Kung Fu Regina\, Chinese folk dancing by the Regina Chinese Cultural Association\, and a graceful Tai Chi demonstration by Chung Wah Tai Chi \nAfter the program\, explore the exhibit and join us for a warm and welcoming reception in the beautiful Government House ballroom. \nWe would be honored if you could join us for this special occasion. We look forward to seeing you there! \n— \nThis series of images celebrates the legacy of Chinese immigrants as important contributors to the unification of what we now know as Canada. The United States and Canada share a border that seems to stretch naturally across the continent. Politically speaking\, however\, securing the Canadian border by no means happened naturally. The government had to act fast\, and great sacrifices were made. At a crucial juncture\, when British Columbia could have been seized by its American neighbour\, the Canadian government needed significant manpower to solidify its confederacy – and thousands of Chinese came to Canada to help make this happen. \nThis series pays homage to early Chinese immigrants by offering a glimpse of their sacrifices and contributions\, both of which have predominantly been excluded from Canada’s educational and community spaces. \n

DESCRIPTION:When the Regina Cyclone devastated the city on June 30\, 1912\, it affected more than just downtown. Join Robin Adeney on a walking tour to discover the Cyclone’s impact on the “Wholesale” District. \nTour will depart from outside of Venue B Coffee Lounge (2300 Dewdney Avenue)\, and will last approximately 90 minutes. \nThis tour is free to the public\, though a $10 donation/person is suggested to support our educational programming.
