In 1996 he incorporated Robinson Residential Design\, a firm providing custom residential and design services to homeowners\, builders\, and developers\, where he is now the principal designer and partner. John’s design projects have been featured on HGTV and in TV documentaries. His interest in historical homes has taken him across North America to better understand the importance of good design. SUMMARY:Serving the Crown: Reflections from Saskatchewan's First Indigenous Lieutenant Governor - 2024 Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:This event is free to attend\, however a $10 donation is recommended to support our programming. \nHis Honour Russ Mirasty\, 23rd Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan\, discusses Indigeneity and service to the Crown. A meet-and-greet reception with His Honour will follow. \nBorn and raised in La Ronge\, Saskatchewan\, Russ Mirasty is a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band\, whose first language is Woodland Cree. Mr. Mirasty joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1976 and led an accomplished 36-year career with the force\, serving as the Director General of National Aboriginal Policing Services and as the Commanding Officer of “F” Division (Saskatchewan). Throughout his career\, he was posted to seven provinces and worked in every province and territory\, as well as participating in an exchange with Australia’s Northern Territory Police Force. After retiring as Assistant Commissioner in 2013\, Mr. Mirasty remained active throughout the province\, helping lead the Student First Engagement process. He also served on several boards\, including the McDowell Foundation in support of education research and information sharing\, and he was appointed to Saskatchewan’s Advisory Group on Poverty Reduction. Mr. Mirasty was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan in 2019. \nThank you to Government House and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor for making this event possible.

Each time a speaker will present a project or will discuss their research around this theme through a Zoom conversation. \nKristin Catherwood\, B.A. Honours (University of Regina); M.A. (Memorial University of Newfoundland)\, will present the methods and approach that are proper to her work with Heritage Saskatchewan. She joined Heritage Saskatchewan in 2015 as Intangible Cultural Heritage Development Officer\, the second position of its kind in Canada\, to support Heritage Saskatchewan’s ground-breaking work in living heritage. \nA trained folklorist specializing in ethnography and community engagement\, Kristin takes the principles of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and living heritage from theory to praxis\, utilizing established methodological frameworks from her background in ethnography and adapting them to the unique cultural context of Saskatchewan. Recently\, her role has evolved to the position of Director of Living Heritage. In this capacity\, she reflects on the dynamic nature of heritage in the province and is responsive to the needs of Saskatchewan communities. To date\, Kristin has worked in more than 50 communities across the province with diverse groups\, including: rural museum committees; newcomers to Saskatchewan; Indigenous youth; northern First Nations; federal inmates; urban community groups; among many others. DESCRIPTION:Part of Living Heritage in Saskatchewan: A Sharing Series: \nEvery two weeks to the end of June\, join us with your coffee or tea after your lunch to learn more about living heritage.\nAt a time when we are all experiencing new ways to work and interact in new and remote ways\, the Humanities Research Institute (HRI) – University of Regina and the Living Heritage Research Cluster (which includes Heritage Saskatchewan) invite the community interested in Living Heritage in our province\, as well as UofR students and faculty\, to join us in a virtual conversation. Each session will take place through a Zoom conversation\, with presentations on a project or a researcher discussing their work around this theme. \n  \nObjectives of this series:  \n\nto better understand living heritage and come to a common understanding of what it can mean in Saskatchewan;\nto encourage sharing ideas and knowledge;\nto create awareness of projects and break down silos;\nto create the potential for common projects and collaborations between researchers and community organizations.\n\nUpcoming Sessions: \nJune 24\, 1:30-2:30pm \nCharity Marsh \n“Imagine This!
