SUMMARY:FROST Festival Lecture: Frank Lloyd Wright in Winter
DESCRIPTION:February 11th Saturday @ 1:00PM\nFROST Downtown Hub: 12th Ave.\, The Big White Tent \nFrank Lloyd Wright is considered the greatest American architect of all time. Join lecturer John Robinson as he tells the history of a brilliant architectural career through stories\, drawings\, and photos. \nJohn Robinson has been in the architectural design and drafting profession since 1977. In 1996 he incorporated Robinson Residential Design\, a firm providing custom residential and design services to homeowners\, builders\, and developers. John’s design projects have been featured on HGTV as well as in TV documentaries. His interest in historical homes has taken him across North America to better understand the importance of good design. \n

SUMMARY:Threads That Bind: The Connections Between Society\, Art & Architecture - 2024 Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:This event is free to watch\, however a $10 donation is suggested to support our programming. \nLink will be available via Heritage Regina’s Facebook page. \nArchitectural history is not simply the study of buildings\, it is also the study of context and society. Culture and art influence architecture and\, in turn\, are influenced by it. Architecture embodies the story of a culture and reflects a constantly changing world-view. \nThis presentation will explore how architecture does not occur in a vacuum but reflects the culture that creates it and how\, in turn\, it influences culture. Architect James Youck will examine the relationship between art\, architecture and historical context throughout western civilization\, including examples from Regina. \nJames Youck is the Principal Architect at P3Architecture Partnership (P3A). James holds degrees in Art History and Architecture from the University of Saskatchewan and Carleton University respectively. He returned to Regina\, his hometown\, in 1994 to start his career after a short sojourn in Japan. He joined Pettick Phillips Partners Architects\, now P3Architecture Partnership\, becoming a partner in 2002. P3A has grown into the largest locally-owned design company in Regina\, with an extensive portfolio of high-profile work.

SUMMARY:The Housing Accelerator Fund: What does it mean for Regina?
DESCRIPTION:Recent zoning changes will allow for up to 6 storeys of multi-family housing to be built along Albert Street from College Avenue to 25th Avenue. This impacts all properties within 200 metres (approximately 1 block) of the west side of Albert Street. In order for the city to access the federal Housing Accelerator Fund\, the next proposed zoning change will allow 6-storey buildings within 800 meters of Albert Street (approximately 4 blocks).\n\n\nSome residents of Regina feel that these sweeping changes are excessive\, and do not properly address housing needs. We encourage all those with questions or concerns to attend the Ward 1 Community Meeting on Tuesday\, May 21 to learn more and have their voice heard.
