Heritage 101: An Introduction

May 4, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

For more than 30 years, the City of Regina has been a leader in recognizing the heritage value of historic places. The City of Regina’s Heritage Conservation Program ensures that historic places are protected, conserved and continue to contribute to the quality of life in our neighbourhoods. Historic places reinforce the sense of place that makes Regina unique from other communities.
Come hear about the tools used to identify, conserve and protect historic places. This talk will explore the history of heritage conservation in Regina, the regulatory environment at City Hall, and the current review of the Heritage Conservation Program.
Liberty Brears is a Senior City Planner at City Hall. She is a graduate of the University of Victoria, holding both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a diploma in Cultural Resource Management. Liberty began her career in heritage while working on contract with the Government of British Columbia’s Heritage Branch in 1997. Since then, she has been increasingly involved in the heritage community. She has participated as a Director on the Board of Heritage Saskatchewan and as an ICOMOS Canada Committee member. She worked as a heritage planner at the City of Vancouver before moving to Regina, where she began leading the Heritage Conservation Program at the City of Regina in 2010.Refreshments provided.
